A Gazal for Kashmir

(In imitation of Ali Eteraz)

There is an oppressor in every man, able to instruct a slaughter.
There is a tank in every TV screen, but #‎kashmirilivesmatter.

Though in whataboutery-land, poets still prick the mind,
When pellets fail tongues, do #kashmirilivesmatter?

When the ashes of myths are mourning for succour,
What truths can I fabricate to make #kashmirilivesmatter?

When every child’s visage is target-practice gear,
There is no song I can sing to make #kashmirilivesmatter.

Sailen has no salve to sooth tyranny, Bharat,
But nothing else matters, when Kashmiri lives don’t matter.

  1. Kashmiri lives matter because they are equally human beings as like ours. Sometimes I feel we are no more humans rather we are only a selfish creature who is destroying this beautiful earth.

  5. We live in orwellian times, "some animals are more equal" & some dont make the count at all. The poet shows us the mirror.

    1. But in these times does a 'poet' and what he has to say count? I wonder.

  8. A beautiful thought about the people. The Kashmiries. Both the Muslims and the Pandits. I have friends on both sides of the camps and I have seen they both suffer.
