Please don’t desert the post 

even after my return,
stick to it. 

Please don’t throw 
the flowers away.
Does it really matter 
if they are fresh or stale?

Please open all my 
hidden, deserted dreams,
By embossing them.

Please invert 

all the lamps everywhere,

And stop hating the darkness.

Please face the sea 
without blinking,
And yet, 

do not hate the sky.

Please.

Please know the earth 
to be a humungous point,

Try and stay there.

Please wait 
for yourself,
And while doing so, 

please wake up!

Please remember, 

that I’ll return

to this only earth 

that there is.

ଦୁଇଟା ଯାକ ବୁଢ଼ା ଆଙ୍ଗୁଠ‌ିରେ ହଳଦୀ ରଙ୍ଗର ନଖପାଲିସି । ନରମ ଖରାରେ ଖିଲିଖିଲି ହସୁଥିବା ସୋରିଷ ଫୁଲର ରଙ୍ଗ । ନିଶ୍ୱାସ ଛାଡ଼ିଲା ବେଳେ ପାଦ ସହିତ ମୋ’ ଆଡ଼କୁ । ନିଶ୍ୱାସ ନେଲା ବେଳକୁ ମୋ’ ଠାରୁ ଦୂରକୁ । 

ଆଙ୍କେଲ୍ ଷ୍ଟ୍ରେଚିଙ୍ଗ୍ । ଉପର, ତଳ । ଉପର, ତଳ । ଛଅ ଥର । ତା’ ପରେ ରୋଟେସନ୍ । ଆଗେ ଘଣ୍ଟା ଭଳିଆ । ତା’ ପରେ ଘଣ୍ଟା ଚାଲିର ଓଲଟା ।

ବାକି ଆଠଟି ଆଙ୍ଗୁଠିରେ ରଙ୍ଗ ନାହିଁ । ଧାପେନାକୁ ବି ନାଇଁ । ରଙ୍ଗ ନାହିଁ ବୋଲି ଆଉ କିଛି ଅଛି, ତାହା ବି ନୁହେଁ । ନଖରେ ଧୁଳି, ମଇଳା, କିଛି ନାହିଁ । ପୂରା ସଫା । ଚକଚକ । କୌଣସି ପୁଅ ପିଲାର ନଖ ଏପରି ସଫା ଆଉ ବାଗିଆ ମୁଁ କେବେ ଦେଖ‌ିନି ।

ମୋର ଇଚ୍ଛା ହେଉଛି, ନଖଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ଗୋଟିଏ ଗୋଟିଏ କରି ଧରନ୍ତି । ଗେଲ କରନ୍ତି । ଖାଲି ବୁଢ଼ା ଆଙ୍ଗୁଠି ଦିଓଟିକୁ ଛାଡ଼ି । ସେ ଦିଓଟି କୌଣସି ଶାରୀରିକତାର ବାହାରେ । 

ଉପର ତଳ ହେଲା ବେଳେ ଦିଶ‌ୁଚନ୍ତି ‘ଭ‌ି’ ପରି । ନା । ଦିଶୁଚନ୍ତି, ମୋ’ ଝରକା ଫାଙ୍କରୁ ପିଲାବେଳେ ଦେଖାଯାଉଥିବା ଶିଖରଚଣ୍ଡୀର ଯୋଡ଼ି ମୁଣ୍ଡିଆ ଭଳି ।

I understood 

as much I heard.

Janhi flowers strewn across the branch,
stretched away 

after shooing me out of their way;
the clouds opened their mouth,
and then spit out the rains.

I put my ears 

close to the heart of the clouds,
and heard.

And I understood 

as much as I heard.

I had nothing to say,
absolutely nothing indeed!
then why was I being called 

by the forest, 

the river 

and the birds?
Why was the sun rising,
and making me rise 

above the noise of the streets?

All my ancestors are busy

climbing stairs,

and all my successors 

are busy counting them.

Does anyone listen 
to the cribbing of someone 
who cannot speak? 
Definitely not the eyes 

about to brim over with tears,
or the flowers 
that bloomed out of season.

For the sleep-addicted time, 
therefore,
I have nothing,
nothing indeed!

I understood

ଏଠାରେ ସ୍ଥାନିତ ଚିତ୍ରଟି ଆଙ୍କିଥିବା କଳାକାର ହେଲେ କାନାଡ଼ାରେ ଜନ୍ମିତ ଆମେରିକୀୟ ଚିତ୍ରଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଆଗ୍ନେସ୍ ମାର୍ଟିନ୍‌ (ମାର୍ଚ୍ଚ ୨୨, ୧୯୧୨-ଡିସେମ୍ବର ୧୬-୨୦୦୪) । ଜେନ୍ ବୌଦ୍ଧ ଧର୍ମ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଅନୁପ୍ରାଣିତ ଆଗ୍ନେସ୍ ସାରା ଜୀବନ ସ୍ୱେଚ୍ଛାକୃତ ଭାବରେ ଏକୁଟିଆ ରହୁଥିଲେ ଓ ସ୍କିତ୍‌ଜୋଫ୍ରେନିଆରେ ଆକ୍ରାନ୍ତ ଜଣେ ମାନସିକ ରୋଗୀ ଥିଲେ । କିନ୍ତୁ ଜୀବନ ପ୍ରତି ତାଙ୍କର ଯୁକ୍ତାତ୍ମକ ଦୃଷ୍ଟିଭଙ୍ଗୀଟି ରହିଥିଲା । ତାଙ୍କ ଜୀବନର ଅନେକ ଗୋପନ ତଥ୍ୟ ତାଙ୍କର ଜୀବନୀ ଗ୍ରନ୍ଥ ‘ଆଗ୍ନେସ୍ ମାର୍ଟିନ୍: ପାୟୋନିୟର୍, ପେଣ୍ଟର୍, ଆଇକନ୍’ରେ ଆମେ ପଢ଼ିବାକୁ ପାଉ । 

ନିଜକୁ ସେ ଜଣେ ଆବ୍‌ଷ୍ଟ୍ରାକ୍ଟ ଇମ୍ପ୍ରେସନିଷ୍ଟ୍ ଚିତ୍ରଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଭାବରେ ଚିହ୍ନଟ କରୁଥିଲେ ମଧ୍ୟ, କଳା ସମାଲୋଚକମାନେ ତାଙ୍କୁ ମିନିମାଲିଷ୍ଟ ଚିତ୍ରଧାରା ସହ ସାମିଲ କରନ୍ତି । ଚିତ୍ର ଅଙ୍କନ ସହ ସେ ଚଳଚ୍ଚିତ୍ର ବି ନିର୍ମାଣ କରିଛନ୍ତି । ବିଶିଷ୍ଟ ଚିତ୍ରଶିଳ୍ପୀ ଏ. ଡ଼ି. ରେନ୍‌ହାର୍ଟ୍‌ଙ୍କ ସହ ବନ୍ଧୁତା ଓ ମାର୍ଗଦର୍ଶନ ଆଗ୍ନେସଙ୍କ ଚିତ୍ରଧାରାକୁ ବହୁଧା ପ୍ରଭାବିତ କରିଥିଲା । ଜୀବନକାଳ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ପ୍ରାୟ ୮୫ଟି ଏକକ କଳା ପ୍ରଦର୍ଶନୀ କରିଥିବା ଆଗ୍ନେସ୍ ମନପସନ୍ଦ ନହେଲେ ନିଜ କଳାକୃତିକୁ ସମୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ନଷ୍ଟ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରସିଦ୍ଧ ଥିଲେ । 

ପ୍ରାୟତଃ ଛଅ ଫୁଟ ଗୁଣନ ଛଅ ଫୁଟର କ୍ୟାନ୍‌ଭାସ୍ ଅଙ୍କା ଆଗ୍ନେସ୍‌ଙ୍କ ଛବିରେ ରେଖା ଓ ଜାଲ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ମିଳେ, ଯେଉଁଥିରେ ନାମମାତ୍ର ବର୍ଣ୍ଣର ବ୍ୟବହାର ହୋଇଥାଏ । ଦେଖିବାକୁ ଖୁବ୍ ସହଜ ଓ ସରଳ ମନେ ହେଉଥିବା ଏହି ଛବିଗୁଡ଼ିକର ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତି ପ୍ରଣାଳୀ ବେଶ୍ ଜଟିଳ ଓ ସମୟସାପେକ୍ଷ । ପ୍ରକୃତିରୁ ଅତି ଅଳ୍ପ ଜ୍ୟାମିତିକ ରୂପରେ ପ୍ରକାଶ କରିବାରେ ତାଙ୍କର ଆଗ୍ରହ ହିଁ ଏପରି ଚିତ୍ରକାରୀକୁ ଜନ୍ମ ଦେଇଥିଲା ।

Till now,
what have I ever given to anyone?
My withering existence,
drops of intimacy,
incompetent footsteps,
or, for that matter,
grams of vanishing solidarity?

I have not been able 
to burn as wood 
in a deprived stove,
nor have I flowered 
as a pointless word
in a mouth long silenced.

I have been swimming around
like a tiny dream-laced fish
in a vanishing pond.

And I have been ruminating 
whether I should jump into the ocean
and give it immortality,
or should I dig down, 
and irritate the soft head 
of the snake 
that props up the world.

But 
at the most opportune moment of the play,
I get caught 
in the beak of the long-meditating heron.

Wash your face off the mirror.
The scene on the other side will change.
 
On this side, are hills of sand.
On the other side, are fields of paddy,
and a blue river.
 
You wanted to hear a song?
Come, I’ll take you to a country without mirrors.
Then, every scene will sing a song.
And
you yourself will turn
into a scene singing a song.

Note: This poem is from the volume ‘Kebe kebe janha ratire’ published by Kitab Bhavan, Bhubaneswar in the year 2012. Chirashree Indrasingh (1966-present) is one of the foremost contemporary writers of fiction in Odia, as well as a formidable poet in her own right. She published her first book of Odia short stories, titled 'Bengabati katha' (Frog Woman’s Tale) in 1997. Since then she has published seven short story collections, two anthologies of poems, and a couple of novellas. 'Utiani Sanja,' 'Aanka Banka Naee,' 'Bidambana,' and 'Sua' are some of her notable works. She is the recipient of Bhubaneswar Book Fair Award, Kanheilal Award, Subrata Rath Memorial Award, and a Fellowship from the Department of Culture, Government of India, amongst others. She teaches Political science at U.N. (Autonomous) College, Adashpur, Odisha.
